It Appears We're Having a Party

cookout invite
And the party planning crazy kicks into high gear!

Also, have you or someone you loved been to Hilton Head? If I were going to Hilton Head, what should I see, do and eat?

Misc. Nonsense

I hosted a wedding shower a couple months ago (Has it already been a couple months? Holy crap -- is it March?! Close.) and spent a long time surfing the internet for some way I could calculate how much food to prepare, which of course I stumbled upon today. Also observe Real Simple's neato new website.

I'm in hypochondriac mode. I know it's not meningitis. Might be strep or flu or sinuses or a bad week.

And there are really no words to express the grief, sorrow, concern, shock, disappointment, etc., I felt last night. An excerpt from my conversation with Lee during half-time:
Me: I've decided that my least favorite three-word phrase ever is, "Another Kentucky turnover."
Lee: So I guess this makes your least favorite five-word phrase, "And another turnover from Porter."

Domestic Goddess

I try to be a bit of a domestic goddess. I aspire to be Bree Van de Kamp with Susan's fun personality and amazing hair. So today was my big culinary challenge: hosting my husband's brother's fiancee's wedding shower! It was actually a lot of fun. A little stressful getting it all sorted out, but it all came together and just in time!!

Observe my beautiful spread:
I made mini cupcakes, cheese fondue with bread and pretzels, peanut butter balls with and without chocolate coating, chicken salad croissants, white bean dip with pita chips, vegetable tray and fruit tray! I just realized that I forgot to put out the carrots and cucumbers. Oh well! I also filled martini glasses with Hershey Hugs and Kisses.

And in other examples of my domestic prowess, I've finally decorated the mantel in a way I think looks really awesome! Plus, I did the floral arrangement myself. It's a really simple arrangement, but I still did it on my own so I'm giving myself all the props for it.
