And the Kitchen

Before
007
We are anti-wallpaper.

During
024

Taking down the wallpaper didn't make us love it anymore.

Check out the crack I patched all by myself! Father-in-law said I did an excellent job! I'm the Spackle Queen. (In addition to other various regal titles.)

Under the wallpaper we found some special retro backsplash madness that was falling apart in one area (the dark brown). Lee's re-mudding that.

It's amazing what some Olympic Premium Turquoise Mist can do!

I have a friend who is renting an apartment from an elderly aunt, and she had to work with paper like that too! Amazingly, it looks totally awesome on one wall only - but I guess it would be a bit overwhelming in larger quantities :)

I've seen some cute modern wallpaper styles that I like, but after seeing how much trouble it is to take it down, we won't be using it. Ever. Although Downey and water work really well at getting it off.

I love it, Katie! What a huge improvement!!! But the picture of Lee scraping wallpaper tugs at my lazy strings and makes me think, 'I'm never moving or redecorating ever again.' That's probably the attitude that makes people leave their creepy fruit wallpaper in place for 30 years.

It's amazing what a coat of paint can do! I'm so proud of all your endeavors so far in your new house - I'm sure I would just be completely overwhelmed, sitting in a heap of paint chips and not even know where to start! :-P

Woo hoo, down with the ugly wallpaper!

Do you think the newer wallpapers are going to be any easier to removed? With the new wallpaper trend, I'm sure there are going to be plenty of homes that need to be redone 5-10 years from now :/.

Kasey – I'd hope the new wallpaper is easier to remove! And really we didn't have that hard of a time with it, I think we're just not cut out for manual labor. 6 hours just to get to the point where you can prime is tough stuff. ;)

This is one of the reasons why I wouldn't mind having an older kitchen. I love home improvement projects and can't wait to do them myself!
